On behalf of St. Mary's funeral ministry, we are very sorry for your loss. All Masses of Christian Burial at St. Mary's and Services at Funeral Home Chapels are scheduled through the Funeral Homes. If you have not already done so, please plan your arrangements with them.
The Readings, psalmody, homily and intercessions proclaim to the assembly the paschal mystery, teach remembrance of the dead, convey the hope of being gathered together again in God’s kingdom, and encourage the witness of Christian life. Selections for the First Reading are from the Old Testament, Psalm, and Second Readings are from the New Testament.
Partaking in the Funeral Liturgy by proclaiming God's Word can be very meaningful for the family and friends of the deceased. We encourage you to consider who you might like to read the First Reading, Second Reading, and the Psalm (if not sung). The Prayers of the Faithful are also available to be read. We do recognize this is a very difficult time for you, so if you would rather have a member of our Funeral Ministry proclaim the readings, they are available to assist.
The Mass of Christian Burial is the Mass celebrated for the repose of the soul of the faithful departed. As such, eulogies are not allowed as they are not a part of the Sacred Liturgy. We encourage families to share eulogies at the wake and/or reception.
Music is integral to funeral rites as it allows the community to express convictions and feelings that words alone may fail to convey. Its message and tone has the power to console and uplift mourners as well as unify the grieving community.
Therefore, instead of seeking out popular secular songs which aren’t fitting in a liturgical setting, we seek to include solid liturgical music that can support, console, and uplift participants and help to create in them a spirit of hope in Christ’s victory over death.
