"The Order of Christian Marriage expresses and celebrates the essential nature of marriage, which is primarily a covenant by which a man and woman establish between themselves for their mutual benefit, for the procreation and upbringing of children, and for the building up of the family, the Church and society. The Marriage covenant is a reflection of the covenant between Christ and His Church. The Marriage Rite properly expresses and reinforces the essential properties of permanence and exclusivity of this covenantal union. A valid Marriage between baptized Christians is always a Sacrament, and through this Sacrament the Holy Spirit imparts the grace for the couple to nurture and foster their union in equal dignity, mutual giving and undivided love."
